BEAUTY

I've always loved clothes, shoes, makeup, accessories, and getting my hair done. Okay, maybe when I little I didn't always love getting my hair done. I had super thick, long hair that hairdressers insisted on letting them french braid. I didn't mind the outcome, I just hated the process. I remember sitting in the chair of doom salon chair for what felt like an eternity while they combed, pulled (hard and tight), then pulled some more until I was finally free.


I was your pretty typical girl growing up. (I think.) I played dress-up with my stepmom's clothes and jewelry, I LOVED to go clothes shopping, I adored wearing dresses so much that for awhile I refused to wear jeans (What do you mean I have wear pants to ride my bike?), and in 6th grade I started pestering my parents for permission to wear makeup.

I was slowly eased into the world of cosmetics once I started my first year of junior high, which at that time in Parker, Colorado was 7th grade. In the beginning I was allowed to wear blush and lipstick. Once I started 8th grade, eyeshadow and mascara were added to my morning beauty rush ritual. I wore my four beauty products with pride, but was chomping at the bit to wear eyeliner. Finally, in 9th grade (still junior high), I no longer envied my friends' black, purple, green, and mostly blue lined eyes because I was now one of them. I rocked my spiral perm, pegged pants, double socks, and the coolest blue trio around - eyeshadow, eyeliner, AND mascara.

(Today you won't find a trace of blue anywhere among my arsenal of cosmetics unless it's the packaging!)

Since separating from my STBXH last summer, I feel like I've awaken from a six year long beauty slump. It wasn't that I stopped caring about my looks. I guess I felt like putting forth an effort into looking nice was pointless since my ex had zero interest or physical desire for me. And over the years, I got lazy. Now I'm enjoying living my life looking a little more polished. I forgot how fun it is to experiment with new products and looks!

I've discovered some really great products and tutorials via The Nest's Fashion & Beauty board. One of my favorite new (to me) products is Revlon ColorStay foundation. It provides fabulous coverage, doesn't feel or look cakey, controls shine produced by the exuberant amounts of oil in my T-zone, and is extremely affordable.



















One of my other new "love it so much I can't live without it" products is Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I should have started using this a LONG time ago! Every eyeshadow, whether it's pricey MAC or cheapo drugstore, creases on my oily eyelids. No longer a problem, woot! It's a little pricey, but SO worth it.

















Finally, my last new (any maybe most) favorite product is CoverGirl LashBlast mascara. I've tried quite a variety of mascaras in my life, from high end to drugstore. This mascara, for me, is hands down the best I've ever used!




















Now, on to tutorials. So far I have 2 (well sort of 3) favorite youtube beauty "gurus" in which I've provided the links to their youtube pages.
